The Kuki Women for Human Rights (KWOHR), the Paite Numei Pawl (PNP), and the Zou Women Human Rights Organization (ZOWHRO) demanded the state government to set up an inquiry team headed by a police officer not below the rank of IG to investigate the alleged gangrape of a minor in November, 2021.
In a joint statement, the organisations while appreciating the intervention of Bishnupur Police, Childline Bishnupur & Churachandpur, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Bishnupur who rescued the child, questioned the intent of granting bail to one of the arrested accused namely Viveshan Singh, who was arrested under FIR No. 24(11)2021 WPS-BPR U/s 365 IPC and 6 POCSO Act by Bishnupur police.
The organisations demanded the government to rehabilitate and give proper security to the minor survivor as she has been under constant threat.
It also demanded to book all the accused persons who perpetrated such heinous crimes under relevant Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act, 2012 whose act amounted to grave offence, cognizable and non-bailable in nature. And the victim statement be recorded under Sec. 164 of CrPC by a competent Magistrate. The organisations also demanded justice to the survivor and her late mother who faced unnatural death after being sexually assaulted in 2016; and ensure that she is rehabilitated at the earliest.
While expressing shock and disgusted by the incident and condemning in the strongest terms of this abominable act and brutality inflicted on the child, the organisations also shared their solidarity with the survivor who must have undergone physical and mental trauma inflicted by the perpetrators.
