Commissioner and Secretary Tourism, Nagaland, I Kitto Zhimomi, on Tuesday has announced that the remaining three days of the 10 days 22nd edition of Hornbill Festival 2021 which kick started on December 1 coinciding with the Nagaland Statehood at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, have been cancelled.
According to an official bulletin, the calling off the remaining days was decided at an emergency State cabinet meet held in Kohima on Tuesday in connection with the unfortunate December 4 incidents where 14 innocent civilians were killed and grievously injuring many others by the security forces at Oting village in Mon district, Nagaland.
Apologizing on behalf of the Government of Nagaland, Zhimomi, hoped that the cancellation of the festival would not discourage the tourists to come and visit Nagaland again and asked the tourists to understand and empathize with the people of Nagaland in solidarity.
Zhimomi also added that all festivities would cease from Tuesday, however, he informed that the food stalls and stalls run by artisans and craftsmen would continue to remain open till December 10.
Visitors from other states also expressed their sentiments and solidarity towards the Konyak community.
