A total of 60 participants from Ukhrul District Thang-Ta Association and Hungpung Hao-kok Thang-Ta Academy are participating in the ongoing Championship.

The first Thang-ta Championship of Ukhrul District kickstarted on Saturday at Bakshi Indoor Stadium, Hungpung, organised by Hungpung Hao-Kok Thang-ta Academy under the aegis of Ukhrul District Thang-ta Association.
Attending the opening ceremony as chief guest, Ex-MLA of 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, Samuel Risom lauded the Hao-Kok Thang-ta Academy and Ukhrul District Thang-ta Association for organising the first ever Ukhrul District Thang-ta Championship 2021. He implored the participants to soar higher and compete in the state, national and international level and promised to extend all possible from his side.
“Your skillful display with Thang (knife) and Ta (spear) can bring much success in your life like the sharpness of knife and spear. Give your best, put your heart and soul because through this you can earn scholarship, stipend, honorarium and other facilities through this sport. Samuel Risom also lauded the Hao-Kok Thang-ta Academy for imparting such knowledge and skills to the students and wish for excellence and positive results in the coming days.
While wishing the best of luck to all participants, Samuel Risom opened the first Ukhrul District Thang-ta Championship 2021.
Thang-ta grandmaster of Manipur, H. Prem Kumar Singh stated that the Ukhrul District Thang-ta Association was established in 1990. The martial arts of Manipur is now being popularised in various states of India and has become one of the emerging sports in India. Through the active support and promotion by the Government of Manipur, the sports has been taken to a higher level.” He wished every participant and judges a meaningful championship.
