Mukhi is the 30th Governor of Assam and assumed office on October 10 in 2017. Prior to his appointment as Governor of Assam, Mukhi was Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam, on Friday was sworn in as the 20th Governor of Nagaland (additional charge) at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
Justice Songkhupchung Setro of Gauhati High Court administered the oath of office of the governor designate.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, taking to Twitter congratulated Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on taking oath as the new Governor of Nagaland.
On behalf of the people of the state, he welcomed the new governor and further wished him the best for his new assignment.
Mukhi is the 30th Governor of Assam and assumed office on October 10 in 2017. Prior to his appointment as Governor of Assam, Mukhi was Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He earlier held the portfolios of finance, planning, excise and taxation and higher education in the Delhi government. He is credited with working extensively for the welfare of the people of Delhi.
Some of the notable achievements credited to Prof. Jagdish Mukhi’s name were banning of lottery trade etc in Delhi in 1994, when he was the minister of finance.
He also worked towards persuading people to abstain from consuming alcohol.
As minister of excise, he declared record number of dry days in a year and he was also instrumental in establishing Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, a professional university which was self-funded, as a minister of higher education.
Prof Mukhi was also honoured as the best finance minister of the nation and also received best MLA award in Delhi Vidhan Sabha twice.
Prof Mukhi will discharge the functions of the governor of Nagaland in addition to his duties as the governor of Assam until regular arrangements are made.
Chief Secretary, Nagaland, J Alam, after obtaining the permission from the Governor- designate read out the Warrant of Appointment. The newly appointed Governor of Nagaland received Rashtriya Salute presented by 10th IR Battalion at the Raj Bhavan courtyard.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief minister Y Patton, Nagaland Assembly Speaker, ministers, advisers and state officials among others.
