Police have arrested several individuals, including the ‘leader’ of the racket and seized huge quantities of medicines used for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Manipur police on Thursday busted a racket allegedly indulging in transportation of COVID-19 treatment related medicines from India to Myanmar through Moreh. Several individuals involved in the alleged black marketing have been arrested and large quantities of medicines have also been seized.
Imphal Police Station OC inspector N Ingocha and his team launched an operation based on reliable information about the racket.
On Thursday afternoon, the OC alerted his team about a car (Santro) with a note ‘Medical Supply’ on the windshield coming from Hatta, Imphal East towards Moreh. The car was stopped and parked at a gate at Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai.
Two medicine boxes — Rosinox 60 (400 pieces) and Megmanox 40 (300 pieces) were found inside the deck of the car.
The driver of the car, Feroz Khan (28), S/o (Late) Seraj Ahamad of Moreh Ward number 7 was examined. The police team further detected six carton boxes containing medicines from the Akoijam Tombi of Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai at the instance of one Akoijam Priyobarta aka Bochou (38) S/o Late AK Angou of Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai.
The boxes contained Rosinox 60 (400 pieces), Megmanox 40 (1200 pieces), and Feravir 400 (100 boxes of 10 by 10 tablets)
The car and the medicines were seized accordingly. According to the police, the accused persons could not produce any valid dealer, sale challan and permits. It was found that they were arranging to transport the medicines to Moreh by Friday.
On further examination, it was revealed that the leader of the team is one Gore assisted by one Kale, both from Moreh. During the follow up actions, G Kalidas aka Kale (31) S/o R Gandhi of Moreh Ward Number 5 and Rajesh Bhandari aka Gore (47) S/o Jeev Nath Bhandari of Moreh Ward Number 6 were arrested from Thangal bazar and Airport gate.
For an effective and proper investigation of the offences under Drug Control Act 1950, the seized medicines and the arrested persons were handed over to the OC Singjamei Police Station.
