27 Assam Rifles on Tuesday conducted a selection  programme for Jettwings Institute of Aviation & Hospitality, Guwahati, fully sponsored by Department of Tribal Affairs & Hills, Government of Manipur to prepare the youth of Ukhrul district for 12 months Integrated Graduate Dual Diploma Program in Cabin Crew Management & Airport Operations, Hospitality & Tourism Management.

The selection was carried out to shortlist aspiring girls and boys from Ukhrul for attending one-year sponsored diploma course at Jettwings, one of the premier Aviation & Hospitality institutes of the country. 27 Assam Rifles and Ms Alem Shimray of Career Pathfinder took the initiative aggressively to reach out to the remote areas of the Ukhrul district.

Commandant Assam Rifles Col Rippon Bora while speaking to the aspiring candidates exhorted them to build up capability through the opportunities ahead and contribute towards overall nation building.

He also emphasized on building up self-sustenance in piggery farming in terms of a Pig breeding centre in Ukhrul through co-operative society model and scientific pig rearing to meet large demand of pork consumption in Ukhrul through sustained effort.

Koireng Shaiza while sharing his experiences of on the job piggery training at Symbiotic Farms Private Limited, Guwahati mentioned that there are many farmers in Ukhrul who are into pig rearing.

However, due to lack of any financial assistance and unwillingness of banks to provide loans to farmers coupled with non-existence of any pig breeding centre in the district, piggery farming is not getting its due.

Budding organic farmer, Yangmi Ruivah of Chingai also shared his experiences of organic farming and looked forward to financial assistance to aspiring farmers like the Sikkim Government. He attended an organic farming tour to Sikkim in 2019 sponsored by 27 Assam Rifles.

Speaking to this correspondent, Yangmi Ruuvah stated that “while organic farming has been in practice since 2014 the Ayok Agriculture and Horticulture Farming CS Ltd (AAHFCS) was fully activated after registration in 2015.”

He added “in Naga hills in general and in particular the Tangkhul tribes have practiced organic farming since time immemorial. Fertilizers are beyond affordable prices for the poor farmers, loaded by transportation charges and hence Tangkhul farmers practice almost 100% organic farming.

AAHFCS main objective is to organize small farmers in due course of time so that consolidated marketing with price tags as organic products could fetch more income to small and marginal farmers.”

“The Organic Farming Tour for seven Northeast states organic farmers to Sikkim organised by Assam Rifles in the year 2019-2020 exposed me a lot in the way how organic farming practices should be carried out and I really thanked the 27 Assam Rifles for such initiatives,” added Yangmi Ruivah.

Sherly Sorokhaibam, councillor of Jettwings stated that “Jettwings has 97% job placement record in various hospitality or aviation services. We have done screening for most of the candidates.

Around 60 candidates from Ukhrul have been shortlisted  for interview. In Manipur, the prospect of getting a job is very far. Therefore this opportunity offered by Jettwings is a good one. The job placement will greatly depend on the individual’s effort and performance. “

The event was conducted in accordance with COVID protocols promulgated by the Government of Manipur and all COVID appropriate behaviours were strictly followed.
