A three-day workshop on the journey of Manipuri cinema (1972-2020) has been commenced on Monday at the Senate hall, Department of Earth Science, Manipur University organised by the students of Department of Mass Communication, MU and Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU).
Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural function, eminent film critic RK Bidur said that organising such workshop was appropriate and timely. Although the Right To Information (RTI) has become a law, the Right to Communication also needs to be given importance, he added.
Bidur further added that mass communication, of which cinema is also a part, has the ability to democratise ideas and thoughts. He exuded confidence that the workshop will be able to let the participants understand the world of Manipuri cinema.
The first session on Monday saw Film Society Manipur president Meghachandra Kongbam giving a presentation and interacting with the participants. On the second day national awardee, actress Tonthoinganbi Leishangthem and eminent film director Makhonmani Mongsaba will be present. While film editor Yoimayai Mongsaba and eminent camera person and film director Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma will attend the workshop as resource persons.
The inaugural function was attended by MU vice chancellor professor Amar Yumnam as chief guest, while RK Bidur, MU dean of Students’ Welfare professor Th Ratankumar Singh attended as guests of honour and MUSU president Moirangthem Boby joined the dias as president of the function.
