WAD condemns sexual assaults of two minor girls

Organisation lauded personnel of Moreh Police Station and Imphal Police Station for arresting the culprits without delay

Women Action for Development (WAD) on Wednesday strongly condemned sexual assaults of two minor girls in two separate incidents reported at Nagamapal in Imphal West district and Moreh in Tengnoupal district in June.

WAD lauded personnel of Moreh Police Station and Imphal Police Station for arresting the culprits without further delay so as due procedures of law could be assured in the best interest of the public, said a press release.

It may be noted that Moreh police arrested one. M Touthan of Moreh Ward No II and the Imphal police arrested Rupesh Kumar Singh for commissioning of such heinous crime against children.  

The organisation also appreciated the doctors for providing medical assistance to the victims at this critical juncture of Covid-19 pandemic and also for reporting the matter to the concern PS providing the necessary evidences to take legal action against the culprits.  

WAS appealed the District Child Protection Units and Child Welfare Committees and the Department of Social Welfare to release the interim compensation as mandated in POCSO, Act 2012 for the victims so as to ensure proper medical attention and other requirement.

“It is also important to remind the DCPUs and CWCs to provide multiple counselling to both the victims and their family members until the justice is served and also appeal the concern courts to convict the culprits at the earliest,” said WAD secretary M Sobita in a press statement.
