Ukhrul District VDVK advocacy programme held

The new DC of Ukhrul district Krishna Kumar stated that “the scheme is to promote tribal enterprise through value addition, branding and marketing of forest products.”

Advocacy Programme of Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) of Ukhrul District was held on Friday at Town Hall, Phungreitang, Ukhrul. The programme was organised by the Forest Department, Ukhrul Forest Division, Government of Manipur.

The project is being taken up under the scheme Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY), a project of Nodal Department – Forest Department Government of Manipur and implemented by Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul Forest Division at district level.

The advocacy programme was attended by MLA of 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency, Khashim Vashum, Ukhrul deputy commissioner Krishna Kumar, SP Saujanya Singh, Ukhrul DFO Shanngam Shaliwo and leaders from 37 Self Help Group (SHG).

Speaking at the occasion, MLA Khashim Vashum expressed gratitude to the trainers for taking out their time in imparting the necessary knowledge to the federating units of SHG and its members. He also lauded the implementing agency – the Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul Forest Division in district level for providing the basic and necessary equipment.

Khashim Vashum appealed to the SHG to maintain a separate and proper bank account for the project.  Every SHG must maintain a clean sheet of their bank account and statement.

“Each one of you present here today is the backbone of our society. The driving force behind the growth of our community economy and for this I salute you for your selfless service and contribution. With support like this from the government, if you give your best in what you do, you can become a successful entrepreneur or businessman in the future.”

He also appealed to the gathering to give maximum cooperation to the new DC of Ukhrul. As a support to the project, MLA Khashim Vashum gave Rs 2,000 each to all the 37 SHG present at the programme. 

The new DC of Ukhrul district, Krishna Kumar stated that “the scheme is to promote tribal enterprise through value addition, branding and marketing of forest products.” He lauded the implementing agency of Ukhrul district for the successful implementation of the projects. He appealed to the populace of Ukhrul district to get COVID-19 vaccination at the earliest so as to lead a normal life.

The implementing agency distributed Rs 5,000 each to all the 37 SHG for kick-starting their project. MLA Khashim Vashum along with DC Krishna Kumar and SP Saujanya Singh later visited the Friday Market held at Ava Market and as a sign of support and bought local goods from the various stores.
