Traders’ union seeks financial help for Meiteis in Myanmar

Indo-Myanmar Border Traders’ Union (IMBTU) said the Meiteis in Myanmar are facing a double whammy of a civil war-like situation and COVID-19 surge and appealed to the public for financial support for them.

Indo-Myanmar Border Traders’ Union (IMBTU) has appealed to the public for financial support for the Meiteis in Myanmar, which is facing a double whammy of a civil war like situation and COVID-19 surge.

The Government of Manipur has recently allowed opening of Gate Number 1 and 2 at Moreh as one-way, to allow exports of medical items from India to Myanmar only, and to restrict imports from Myanmar.

IMBTU, in a release, said that the Meiteis in Myanmar are in dire need of medicine to treat COVID-19, Oxygen concentrators, amongst others. They have appealed through social media and personally to the union, it added.

The union said that the details of all the donors would be maintained, while urging everyone to chip in as a humanitarian effort.
