Thoubal police team arrests three UNLF members; grenades, demand letter seized

According to the police, it received information that some members of UNLF were going to lob hand grenades at some government offices, brick firms etc. for not fulfilling their monetary demands.

Thoubal police on Friday arrested three members of the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and seized grenades and demand letters meant to be served to government offices, brick farms, etc. 

The arrested individuals have been identified as Moirangthem Megha Singh (48) S/o (L) M Ganesh Singh of Heirok Part-III, Maibam Rajkumar Singh (22) S/o M Sanahanbi Singh of Tentha Khunjao and Soibam Lemba Singh (34 yrs) S/o S. Shohosing Singh of Tekcham Mayai Leikai. 

According to the police, it received information that some members of UNLF were going to lob hand grenades at some government offices, brick firms etc. for not fulfilling their monetary demands. It was also informed that they are going to serve demand letters of UNLF at some government offices of Thoubal District. 

Immediately, several teams of CDO Unit Thoubal led by OC CDO Thoubal N Tikendra Meetei under the command of Addl. SP (Ops) Thoubal Sachidananda Soibam under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Thoubal District S Ibomcha Singh were deployed at different vulnerable locations and conducted intensified frisking and checking. 

At around 12.30 pm one suspected person namely Moirangthem Megha Singh was intercepted at Champrathong, Heirok Part-III. 

On preliminary questioning, he disclosed that he is a member of UNLF working under Lt. Heishingba. He also disclosed that he has been involved in the transportation of explosive materials for UNLF to commit prejudicial activities. 

Another team of CDO Thoubal led by OC CDO Thoubal N. Tikendra Meetei, intercepted two youths on one motorbike (Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS black in colour bearing Regd. No. MN 01L 8261) in a very suspicious manner near the gate of DC Office Thoubal at around 1.30 pm. 

On preliminary questioning, they disclosed that they have been working under Lt. Heishingba of UNLF. They also disclosed that they were coming to serve demand letters to government offices. 

On searching the bag of Maibam Rajkumar Singh three demand letters signed by Secy Department of Finance, UNLF S. Pankhei was recovered. M. Rajkumar Singh also disclosed that he has been working under Lt. Heishingba through Soibam Lemba Singh (34) S/o S. Shohosing Singh of Tekcham Mayai Leikai. From his disclosure, 34 hand grenades were recovered from his Banana plantation farm.

On preliminary questioning of S Lemba Singh, he disclosed that he has been working under Lt. Heishingba of UNLF. As instructed by Lt. Heishingba, he and M. Rajkumar Singh have served many demand letters to the government offices, brick firms etc. Under the instruction of Lt. Heishingba, they were also planning to lob hand grenades at the government offices, brick firms and government officials who did not fulfill their monetary demands. 

All in all, 34 hand grenades. three demand letters signed by Secy Department of Finance, UNLF S. Pankhei, one black Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS bearing Regd. No. MN 01L 8261 and five mobile handsets were seized.
