Manipur COVID-19: 271 fresh cases detected, five deaths reported

Imphal city bore a deserted look on Friday as the state government imposed containment zone for seven days

As Manipur reported 271 fresh cases on Friday, a majority of them came from Imphal East (104) and Imphal West (105). The number of active cases has now surged to 1417. Five deaths were also reported on Friday.

The other new cases were from Bishnupur (12), Churachandpur (10), Thoubal (8), Ukhrul (7), Chandel (5), Senapati (3), Kakching (2), Noney (2), and Jiribam (1), according to the Health Department.

In the last 24 hours, five persons aged 52 years (male, Imphal West), 37 years (female, Kakching), 76 years (male, Imphal West), 67 years (male, Imphal West) and 41 years (female, Imphal West) expired at Raj Medicity (1). JNIMS (1) and RIMS (3) Hospital respectively. The death toll has now reached 405.

Air passengers who travelled to the state on April 25 by Indigo Flight 6E-6181 in rows 16-21 and 6E-21 in rows 29-35 have been instructed to inform the Common Covid Control Room 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers ( DSO) immediately.

As per the latest information, 1,73,056 individuals have been vaccinated in the state, out of which 68,329 individuals have received the second dose.

According to the IDSP report, 1955 test results were received on Friday. 19 passengers were tested at the airport. There are 993 COVID patients in home isolation at the present.

Meanwhile, Imphal city bore a deserted look on Friday due to the seven-day containment zone imposed by the state government on Thursday. Main streets were empty, apart from some vehicles, and all the shops were closed.

In the morning people rushed to buy essential commodities from grocery stores and fresh vegetables from the vendors. By 10 am police used loudspeakers to remind the public to go back to their home.
