Tangkhul organisations enforce total shutdown in protest against bomb blasts in Ukhrul

The total shutdown was called to condemn frequent explosions and planting of bombs in Ukhrul Headquarters. There was strong support from the public. No vehicles were seen plying on the road and all shops remained closed.

Tangkhul Naga Long and Tangkhul Frontal Organisations, along with the Tangkhul Longphangs, on Thursday enforced a total shutdown in Ukhrul District Headquarters from 05:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

The total shutdown was called to condemn frequent explosions and planting of bombs in Ukhrul Headquarters. There was strong support from the public. No vehicles were seen plying on the road and all shops remained closed.

It may be mentioned here that on April 3, five people were injured when an IED bomb exploded in Viewland Ukhrul town at around 6:25 PM.

On March 20, 2023, a bomb was found at the office of PHED Ukhrul at around 5:30 PM. On March 21, 2023, another bomb exploded inside the premise of Mini Secretariat Complex at around 4:35 PM. On 25 January 2023, there was a bomb blast at Gandhi Chowk, Phungreitang, Ukhrul at around 5 PM. Four persons were reportedly injured during the explosion. On 13 December 2022, an improvise hand grenade exploded inside the office compound of Zonal Education Office, Ukhrul, at around 04:00 PM.

On November 11, 2022, at around 6:15 PM, a hand grenade was found lying on the roadside of Viewland Zone-I Bazaar, Ukhrul, Manipur. The grenade was suspected to be hurled at the bazaar by unidentified person(s) targeting human casualty. Fortunately, it failed to explode.

These frequent incidents of bomb related incidents have caused immense fear and tension to the residents of Ukhrul and the protest shutdown was organised against such incidents.
