Students studying in second-year of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), located at Keikol, Imphal East on Saturday warned that classes will be indefinitely boycotted if the students and the chief minister do not sit together and find a solution about the issues facing the Institute at the earliest.

Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, representative of the students RK Ichanthoibi said that the students have been demanding the concerned authorities to fill up the vacant positions of teachers for the institute and also not to change the principal-in-charge, but to no avail.

The teacher who taught English at the Institute has been on leave due to health issues. And there are no teachers for Math, Music and Meetei Mayek subjects. Despite all these issues, the former principal-in-charge RK Shashiranjan has been teaching them, she said.

But recently the government changed the principal-in-charge instead of appointing a regular principal, she said. The students have been demanding the government and SCERT to reinstate RK Shashiranjan, she added.

In order to find a solution to these issues, we want to sit down and talk to the chief minister at the earliest, she said.
