With cases of COVID-19 surging ahead, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Senapati Mahesh Chaudhari stressed the need for self-sufficiency of medical facilities in the district. He stated, “We do not want any patient being taken to state capital Imphal for further treatment” while interacting with media persons at his office chamber on Saturday.
He informed that at present the district has two Covid Care Centres (CCC) with a capacity of 245 that includes 45 in the district hospital and 200 in ADC building. Sharing more on the availability of facilities in the district, the DC informed that the ICU capacity has been increased from 2 to 4 in the district hospital, two more ambulances were added after being repaired. Soon, one sanctioned oxygen plant would be installed at the district hospital. The DC said there is a plan to place at least one or two oxygen concentrators in each of the PHCs in the whole district.
On the declaration of containment zone, he said that the matter would be decided later to avoid public crowding once it open. “Various restrictions during the period of containment zone declaration remain the same, except for agri activities with adherence to SOPs”, he added. On home isolation, Chaudhari said that respective SDOs are the convenors for community home isolation and informed that with 78 active covid positive cases in the district, many of them preferred home isolation rather than staying at covid care centres.
It may be mentioned, when this correspondent interviewed Mahesh Chaudhari on May 3 as he assumed office as the new DC of Senapati, he stated that his top priority would be COVID-19 management and making the district free from COVID-19 cases. He said with the cooperation of the public, district’s various CSOs and local MLAs would make Senapati a better district. Chaudhari had earlier served as SDO/BDO Tamenglong before being transferred to Senapati as the DC.
