Covid 19: Manipur government caps gathering at 20 persons, defers Class X, XII exams

The Manipur Government has announced new measures in view of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging in some parts of the country and the state is also seeing an increasing number of new cases in the last couple of days.

The State Consultative Committee for COVID-19 met on Sunday, chaired by chief minister N Biren Singh, and discussed the actions required to be taken in the wake of the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Several measures were announced to check the spread of infections in the state. The Home Department issued an order in this regard on Sunday.

Night curfew has now been imposed from 7 pm to 5 am everyday. Media persons and those engaged in Telecom Services and time-bound project constructions have also been exempted, in addition to categories exempted earlier.

All kinds of gatherings have been banned, except unavoidable gatherings for funerals, marriages, timebound religious rituals/ceremonies. Such gatherings will also be strictly limited to 20 persons. COVID appropriate behaviour, including wearing of face mask, is to be ensured by the host/organisers. Violators are to be penalized promptly, the order stated.

All shops and markets will ensure wearing of face masks and take steps to prevent crowding in their shops, market areas. For Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar, schedules have been made for opening of different kinds of shops.

Deputy Commissioners / District Magistrates have issued orders for imposing the curfew under CrPC of their district and to enforce the precautionary measures strictly.

“DCs and state police should enforce COVID appropriate behaviour and impose penalties on violators, especially persons who come out in public places without wearing face masks,” the order stated.

Meanwhile, the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2021 and Higher Secondary Examination-2021, being conducted by BoSEM and CoHSEM respectively, which is supposed to commence from May 6, 2021 and May 5, 2021 respectively, have been postponed until further notice.

Commissioner (Education-S), Government of Manipur, T Ranjit Singh has issued an order in this regard on Monday.

Physical Classes from Class-IX to Class-XII of all government, government aided, private institutions / schools etc, have been suspended with immediate effect and until further orders in public interest. Online classes for these categories of classes will be resumed at the earliest on “top priority”, the order stated.

All the coaching classes and private tuitions teaching school students located within Manipur as well as all boarding and hostels in schools and private hostels accommodating students have also been ordered close with immediate effect and until further orders in public interest.

The order further re-iterated that no physical classes will be held for those students of Class-VIll and below as notified earlier. However, online classes will still continue as usual by all concerned authorities, it added.

On the other hand, commissioner (Art & Culture) Government of Manipur has notified the closure of popular tourist spots and government auditoriums including – INA Martyr’s Memorial Complex, Moirang; Manipur State Museum, Imphal; Manipur State Archives, Imphal; State Central Library, Imphal; Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre, Imphal; Maharaj Chandrakirti Auditorium; Manipur State Art Gallery, Imphal; Palace Auditorium, Imphal, Kangla from Tuesday until further notice.

For those who wish to enter Kangla for religious and ritualistic purposes, they may seek permission from the concerned authority at least seven days in advance. However the walking (morning/evening) inside Kangla shall remain open, it added.
