The joint tribe students’ body on Saturday endorsed the proposed indefinite total bandh from midnight of January 31 called by the Konsakhul (Konsaram) Area Joint Action Committee (KAJAC) over the National Sports University (NSU) imbroglio.

A joint statement issued by the Rongmel Naga Students’ Organization Manipur, Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, All Inpui Students’ Union, and Zeme Students’ Organization Manipur, said that they have resolved to extend all best possible support to the declared Indefinite Bandh along all National Highways and National Projects. After a serious prolonged riffle and deliberation on the NSU matter raised by KAJAC, the joint students’ body said that it found their grievances and demands true and legitimate.

The joint body urged chief minister of Manipur N Biren Singh, “who is known as an individual for being outright and upright on every matters”, to consider the “legitimate” demands of KAJAC and to intervene in renaming the NSU Haraothel as NSU Konsakhul to complete the project in time and without any further disturbances.

“We extol the government of Manipur under our competent chief minister N Biren Singh for discharging all best possible services to the people of the state. The pace of change and development taking place in the state are incredible. We wish the present government the very best even in future in the service of the people,” it said.

The joint students’body said that the present BJP-led government brought the prestigious NSU in the state, “most importantly in the hills’ village of Konsakhul”.

“It is also known to all men since times immemorial, the present site of NSU belongs to Konsaram (Konsakhul), under the then Senapati District, to which none can deny,” it asserted.

However, the joint body alleged that the “simplicity and ignorant” way of hill men (tribal) has been taken advantage by some sections of the society. The “original owner” of the project site was not consulted and bypassed by giving permission for construction of the much applauded NSU in the name Haraothel, it added.

Despite running from post to post investing every effort submitting memorandum, representations etc, for justification, the petitions of the “rightful owner” of the land went unheard all these years. The rights and privileges of the original owner of the project site has been completely ignored and denied which is unfortunate and painful, the statement said.

“All democratic means of achieving the legitimate demands have exhausted,” it asserted.

State police opened several rounds of fire using sophisticated weapons, used tear/ smoke bombs against the peaceful protestors of Konsakhul Village on Friday injuring at least two women.

“Such draconian discharge of duties is unwelcoming at this age. We condemn the high handedness of Manipur police,” it added.
