No respite in Manipur as covid-19 kills another 22, infects 796 more

Daily positivity rate stands at 16.05 per cent. The number of active cases in the state increased to 7,706 and the recovery rate dipped to 88.64 per cent.

Manipur continued to reel under the second wave of COVID-19 as 22 more lives succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the death toll of Manipur to 1,309.

In the last 24 hours, the State Level Covid 19 Deaths Audit Committee reported that five individuals succumbed to the deadly disease each from Imphal West and Kakching, four from Bishnupur, three from Imphal East, two from Chandel, and one each from Thoubal, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.

The daily positivity rate remains a major concern for the state, as 796 new cases were detected out of 4,961 tests with 16.05 per cent positivity rate. Total number of infections has reached 79,417.

Imphal East and Imphal West continue to report the majority of the new cases with 199 and 165 new cases. The other positive cases from the general population are — 120 from Churachandpur, 80 from Bishnupur, 78 from Thoubal, 47 from Kakching, 16 from Tamenglong, 24 from Senapati, 19 from Ukhrul, 13 from Kangpokpi, 12 from Jiribam, eight from Chandel, three each from Tengnoupal and Kamjong and one each from Pherzawl, according to the health department.

The number of active cases in the state increased to 7,706.

As per the health department, the number of patients as on July 12, 2021 admitted or adjusted against available bed strengths in different treatment facilities in the state are RIMS (218 out of 224), JNIMS (220 out of 286), I Land Hospital (25 out of 60), District Covid Facilities (154 out of 332), MSF (29 out of 30), Private Covid Hospitals (218 out of 360) and CCCs (1,171 out of 2,906). The grand total of admitted patients is 2,036 and the number of beds available is 2,162.

On Tuesday, 588 persons were discharged from — Home Isolation (227), RIMS (15), JNIMS (7), CCCs (120) and CHICs (219). The recovery rate is 88.64 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 1940 D-type Oxygen cylinders and 379 B-type Oxygen cylinders were available to different health facilities of Manipur. District hospitals and government institutions have 355 D, 89 B type filled cylinders, according to the health department.

On July 12, 14,369 doses of COVID vaccine were administered. So far, 8,90,643 doses — 7,94,672 first dose and 95,971 second dose — have been administered in Manipur.

Meanwhile, even as the chief minister of Manipur had recently announced that “door-to-door” testing drives will be introduced, the daily COVID-19 update by the health department did not include the specific data about the drive. Interestingly, the number of tests conducted daily have not increased significantly.
