The Niki Sumi led National Socialist Council of Nagaland or NSCN (Niki Sumi) on Thursday said it was shocked with the statement made by the Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR), Lieut. General Pradeep Chandran Nair while being interviewed by The Week Magazine and the same which was published in a Nagaland based daily under the heading “Assam Rifles Director General on AFSPA, Extortion, & other issues” on Jan 6 issue.

According to a press statement issued by MIP NSCN/GPRN, in his interview, the DGAR had stated “are now weakened after Niki Sumi surrendered with his people”, for which it demanded DGAR to clarify as to why he had used the word “surrender” which is completely false and misleading.

“How can a man of his caliber and stature who holds the highest position use such a misguiding statement when he is aware that the GoI and NSCN/GPRN officially revived the ceasefire between the two on 8th September, 2021”, NSCN/GPRN said.

Stating that he was “intentionally” trying to cause chaos, confusion and misunderstanding among the people for no government in the world would ever sign a ceasefire with a surrendered group, the NSCN/GPRN MIP also said that the Government of India was well aware of how and why NSCN/GPRN came to “revive the ceasefire” and it was the universal truth that the NSCN/GPRN, heeding to the call and desire of the people for peace, had come out to join the peace process with the Centre and restore the ceasefire agreement that it had abrogated in 2015 and, subsequently revived the ceasefire on September 8 last year for larger interest of peace in the land.

It also said at no point of time the NSCN/GPRN had surrendered itself from fighting for the cause of Naga people’s rights and shall not even in the days to come.

The NSCN/GPRN added that it strongly condemn the malafide and unscrupulous statement and asked Lieutenant General, Pradeep Chandran Nair, to withdraw his statement otherwise, he shall be held solely responsible for any unpleasant consequences arising because of his baseless statement.

Further, the NSCN/GPRN has asked the Director General to prove if there was any document (s) or agreement on which the NSCN/GPRN has “signed or agreed” for surrender, while the Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs must take note of the contradicting statement made by a high ranking military officials.

“Does the NSCN/GPRN have to sign a separate ceasefire agreement with Indian security forces?” the NSCN/GPRN questioned.
