NAGAPEX 2022: Nagaland’s 1st Virtual Philatelic Exhibition begins

The 3-day virtual mode exhibition which would culminate on February 5 is being organized by Nagaland Postal Division, North East Circle, on the theme “India’s Rich Cultural Heritage” for promotion of Philately and to showcase India’s Rich Cultural Heritage.

With an aim to promote Philately and also to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India, NagaPex 2022, the first ever State Level Virtual Philatelic Exhibition of Nagaland Postal Division began on Thursday at Hotel De’ Oriental, Kohima.
The 3-day virtual mode exhibition which would culminate on February 5 is being organized by Nagaland Postal Division, North East Circle, on the theme “India’s Rich Cultural Heritage” for promotion of Philately and to showcase India’s Rich Cultural Heritage and observance of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
Post Master General, North East, Som Kamei, who was the special guest said that the 1st ever philatelic exhibition in Nagaland was planned to be of physical mode but lamented that due to the pandemic had to reach out to the people through the virtual mode and also through its official website.


Stating that the aim of the whole exhibition was to promote the Philatelic activities in the State targeting especially the young minds, Som added that Philately is not just about collecting of stamp (s) but it is a study of stamp (s) which narrates about any theme including culture, sports or even the World War I and II.
Adding that as one starts collecting it has adds value through the years, Som said that the value of stamp (s) collection is like investing in a “stock market”.

Also stating that Philately should be inculcated amongst children as it teaches them about different places, cultures, and countries, Som informed that for technical help, the exhibition would also teach the children how to collect and preserve them (stamps) for long in a scientific way by experts during the exhibition. Further, He also shared that stamp collection was an old hobby which is termed as “king of hobbies” as it involves many people from children to aged.
He later disclosed that in Nagaland itself there are around 100 senior Philatelist and more than 3000 collectors who participates in Philatelic exhibitions across the country.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Posts, Nagaland Division, Razuzakie Phinyo, has informed that Philatelic competitions are also being organized in different categories for students and others. Around 12 renowned invitees (philatelist) from different states are also participating with their 721 “rarest of the rare” exhibits which many haven’t seen.

President, All Nagaland Private School’s Association (ANPSA) president, Dr. Ahoto Andrew, who was the guest of honour, and Dr Suman Deb, an assistant engineer and a renowned Philatelist also spoke in the programme.

It may be mentioned that Nagaland Postal Division is one of the seven Postal Divisions under the administrative jurisdiction of North Eastern Postal Circle. Under the establishment of Nagaland Division, there is one (1) Head Post Office, 42 Sub Post Offices and 287 Branch Post Offices.
Nagaland Postal Division is offering its services in 15 (fifteen) districts of Nagaland viz Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto, Noklak, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu.
