RIMS MS Dr Thokchom Sachin Deva on Friday said that the COVID vaccine is not the “complete solution” and urged the public to continue maintaining COVID appropriate behaviours even after getting inoculated. He added that “full immunity” will be developed after around 45 days getting the jab.

Dr Sachin Deva was speaking at the weekly press conference on COVID-19 update held at the Directorate of Health Services, Lamphelpat, Imphal. It is jointly organised by the directorate and the National Health Mission.

He further said that the number of sites might get increased if the vaccination process went smoothly without any problems or adverse effects. Currently the government is planning to inoculate 100 persons per site.

Dr Sachin Deva also exuded confidence that since Covishield has been well tested and administered in different countries presently, there won’t be any adverse effects in Manipur too.

The COVID vaccination programme will be launched on Saturday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level. In Manipur, chief minister N Biren Singh will launch the programme in a function held at JNIMS auditorium at 10:30 am.

Manipur Health Department additional director and spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang clarified that the vaccine can be administered to asymptomatic COVID patients but advised the symptomatic patients not to get inoculated yet. He also said that the second dose will be administered within 28 – 30 days which will render the most optimum effect.

On the first day, ten prominent doctors will also get inoculated. They are: Dr Sanjeev Nepram (RIMS), Dr Thokchom Sachin Deva (RIMS), Dr Santa Ahanthem (RIMS), Dr Jogindro (Shija hospital), Dr Palin (Shija hospital), Dr Rajendra Thangjam (JNIMS), Dr L Gojendro (Bishnupur CMO), Dr Pooja Akoijam (RIMS), and Dr Memcha Devi (Thoubal HD MS).

Preparation has been completed for the vaccination programme which observers are calling the world’s largest COVID vaccination drive. Manipur has received a consignment of 54,000 doses of Covishield. The first phase will cover the health workers.
