Nagaland DGP stresses on sensitizing society on protection of women

Rupin Sharma said society should stand up against crimes perpetrated on women. He emphasized on the importance of protecting the identity of the women victims in cases related to crimes against women.

Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma on Friday stressed on the need for sensitizing society on protection of women women folk from violence and crimes.

Speaking on the theme “Working, Efficiency,and Effectiveness”, at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumoukedima, Sharma said protection of women victim(s) including the complainant(s) are need of the hour.
While delivering the keynote address at a seminar on working women of “Mahila Thana” supported by National Commission for Women (NCW), and the Dimapur Commissionerate, Rupin Sharma said society should stand up against crimes perpetrated on women. He emphasized on the importance of protecting the identity of the woman victim in cases related to crimes against women.

Pointing out that protection of identity of victim is a “must” and also keeping in mind the anonymity of family members in revealing or protecting identities of the victims, Sharma said there should be a systematic approach while dealing with different kind of situation.
Stating that women in Nagaland enjoy more freedom than any of the states in the country, he called on all the “victims” to show their acts of courage in front of the society as a whole.

Dwelling on sensitization of Mahila Police in dealing with victims, director,  Prodigal’s  Home, Dimapur, K Ela, shared about her concerns in dealing with the many victims. Spelling out on the need of dealings by the Mahila Police, Ela, was of the opinion that “privacy” or “confidentiality” be maintained though it needs “improvement”.
She stated that it is not easy for the victims to report “crimes” committed on them including sexual assaults. Ela opined that the uniformed personnel should be very sensitive with the victims while also applauding the courage of  those coming out to fight for their rights.
