Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) on Saturday launched the second phase of “Mount Koubru Afforestation” campaign. It was first launched on May 4, 2019 by the Environment and Ecology Affairs wing of the student body.

With an aim to protect Mt Koubrus “ecology”, a team of MSF volunteers set off to scale the 2,562 metres and plant trees. Around 50 volunteers are participating in the campaign.

MSF president Khangembam Bidyasagar said that disregarding the importance of the environment and adopting destructive policies in the name of development is now akin to shooting oneself in the feet.

Stating that humans might become extinct if the situation does not improve, Bidyasagar stated that the campaign is being undertaken to save some of the effects of the environmental disaster.

He further said that MSF will continue to go to different mountains and hills of the state to save the environment.

Maintaining that MSF has been taking up several activities, he said that the student body had earlier urged the state government to preserve the reserve forest areas. He also reiterated the appeal to the government to take up definite steps and also urged for co-operation from the people.
