A poor mother in Chandel’s Boljang village, Sugnu had to bid a hero’s adieu to her elder son, who is currently appearing the ongoing HSLC examinations, after he lost his life while saving his drowning brother in the Chakpi river on April 9.
Nengboi Baite of Boljang village in Sugnu Chandel district was a widow. Her husband Seimang Khongsai left for a heavenly abode a few years back and she had to solely depend upon his eldest son Thangminjoy Baite (16).
However, her whole world turned upside down and her hope was completely shattered after Thangminjoy lost his precious life while saving his drowning brother.
According to the deceased cousin’s brother Minthang, owing to the scarcity of water in the village, Thangminjoy and his brother along with a few friends went to the Chakpi river to wash their clothes at around noon. After a few minutes, Thangminjoy saw his younger brother Thangjalen drowning, and without a second thought and hesitation, he jumped into the river and pulled out his brother and saved him but lost his own life in the process.
His lifeless body was found later by the search party from the village who rushed to the spot on learning of the incident.
Shattered mother Nengboi Baite, controlling her emotion, said that he was the only hope after his father expired being the elder one and he was very understanding while adding that I was a widow and now I am a living death.
