Manipur 2022: State Govt seals inter-district, inter-state and international border till March 10

The measure has been taken up to “prevent infiltration of antisocial and disruptive elements” for smooth conduct of the ensuing election.

Government of Manipur has sealed inter-district, inter-state and international borders from February 25, 2022 to March 10, 2022 in view of the upcoming election in the state.

The Home Department of the state government has issued an order to this effect on Friday.

Setting up of check-points at strategic locations, checking of lorries, light vehicles and all other vehicles will be conducted to “prevent infiltration of antisocial and disruptive elements” for smooth conduct of 12th General Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly, it stated.

As per the order, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur had informed the state government of Manipur to take measures to seal these border to prevent infiltration of anti-social and disruptive elements for smooth conduct of elections as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for last 72 hours till counting issued by Election Commission of India.

The order also highlighted the need to maintain a peaceful atmosphere for smooth conduct of the ensuing 12th General Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly scheduled to be held on February 28, 2022 (1st Phase) and March 05, 2022 (2nd Phase) and counting on March 10, 2022.

Meanwhile, the governor of Manipur La. Ganesan has appealed to all concerned in both hills and valley districts to avoid any kind of violent activities so as to enable the people to exercise their franchise freely and fairly. I am quite optimistic that every organization will cooperate in this democratic process of the state, he said in a statement on Friday.

“I am very much in favour of smooth and peaceful passing off the election process without any major untoward incident. Therefore, in order to enable the general public to participate in this very important democratic process and exercise their right of franchise freely and fairly, abstaining/avoiding from/of any type of violent acts is indispensable at this critical juncture,” he added.

He further appealed to all the citizens of the state to exercise their democratic franchise with free and without fear as this right will determine the destiny of the people in the coming five years.
