The Kuki National Front (KNF), the Kuki militant outfit under Suspension of Operations agreement with the Government of India and Government of Manipur participated in the biggest festival of democracy by exercising their franchise rights at their designated Ebenezer Peace Camp at Natheljang in Kangpokpi District on Monday.

The mother organization of the Kukis militant groups in Manipur, the Kuki National Front is also an entity of the tripartite talks with the Government of India and the Government of Manipur.

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah had assured to resolve the Kuki political issue if the Kukis in Manipur vote the BJP in the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2022 when he visited Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, the two hill districts of the state who went to poll today.

The cadres of the outfit were seen lining up with their full uniform and arms to cast their vote at the Ebenezer Peace Camp at Natheljang while greeting the polling officials on their arrival.

They exercise their franchise rights through postal ballot.

All the eligible voters of the outfit from the three constituencies, i.e. 46-Saikul, 50-Kangpokpi, and 51-Saitu cast their vote through postal ballot.

Thirty eligible cadres of the outfit including from all the three ACs participated in exercising their franchise rights.

Speaking to media persons, the Joint Monitoring Group member of the outfit, Rohan Kuki said that the Kuki National Front had signed a Suspension of Operations agreement with the Government of India and the Government of Manipur in 2008 to resolve the vexed political issues of the Kukis through negotiation.

He continued that since then, we have sincerely participated in exercising our franchise rights at our designated peace camp coming to the mainstream anticipating an early solution to our vexed political issue.

“We are happy that our boys could also participate again in the biggest festival of democracy today at our camp,” he added.

He then urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to resolve the Kuki political issue at the earliest.
