Lilong Haoreibi College Students’ Union on Saturday decried the transfer of former principal A Surenjit Singh instead of “punishing” him. The students’ union accused him of misusing funds of the college for the session 2019-2020.

Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, Lilong Haoreibi College Students’ Union finance secretary Md Sadam Khan suspected collusion as the report of the fact finding committee to investigate the allegations has not been made public. The students have been agitating but the authority is encouraging the “corruption” since no punishment has been given to the former principal, he added.

In the past the “corrupt” principals were made to refund and were even suspended. But the different treatment in the present case has raised suspicion, he added.

Sadam Khan further said that the students’ union has met the commissioner (U) and director (U) several times, but there has been no positive response yet. “Does the government’s fight against corruption not cover the Lilong Haoreibi College?” he asked. The transfer of the “corrupt” principal is welcome but the students want appropriate punishment, he said and urged the government to take action against him.
