CSOs and Meira Paibi organisations continued to push their demand for an appeal to a higher court and re-investigation into the 2018 multi-crore drug haul case involving former Chandel ADC chairman Lhukhosei Zou.

On Tuesday, a sit-in was held against the acquittal of Lhukhosei Zou at Pangaltabi Chingkha, Kakching District. It was jointly organised by Chingkha Meira Paibi and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) Unit, a release said.

Speaking about the issue, CADA Kakching District Committee president Sorokhaibam Nena asserted that the widespread protests against the acquittal of Lhukhosei Zou demanding the government to appeal to a higher court and re-investigate the case is not something which is illegal.

She also mentioned that the public prosecutor had already given the grounds for the appeal against the judgement.

The number of drug users in the state is increasing day by day, she said and asserted that it is due to the availability of different types of drugs freely in the state.

She also urged the government to punish drug smugglers according to the law and also to work honestly in order to save society from the menace of drugs.

The protestors also shouted different slogans at the end of the sit-in, it added.
