The proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has imposed a permanent ban on betel-leaves’ syndicate for allegedly providing funds to what it called “anti-Kengleipak Kuki militants and civil society organisations.

A press note issued by M Punsiba Meitei, Deputy Secretary, Information & Public Relations Department, KCP said that while a bloody conflict between two communities is currently “raging like a conflagration” in Kangleipak, it has come to the knowledge of the Party that the betel leaves syndicate which supplies betel leaves through road transport has been allegedly paying lakhs of rupees to anti-Kangleipak Kuki militant groups like KRA and KNA as well as Kuki Inpi every month, thus helping them fund their anti-Kangleipak activities.

“Indeed, it has been confirmed that over 1 crore rupees is annually paid to these anti-Kangleipak Kuki groups by the same syndicate. What is even more shocking is the fact that even in the aftermath of the ongoing Meitei-Kuki conflict, the same syndicate has paid nearly 7/8 lakh rupees just for being allowed to transport a few truckloads of betel leaves through Kuki-dominated areas, when these Kuki groups have imposed an inhuman blockade on the transport of all essential commodities like food and medical supplies”, said the press note.

KCP also claimed that it would not be wrong to suggest that “these large amounts of money, being paid to the anti-Kangleipak Kuki groups, are being used to acquire arms and ammunition so as to continue their nefarious designs against Kangleipak in general and the Meetei/Meitei community in particular”. The outfit further alleged that this betel leaves’ syndicate is run by a few “self-interested Meeteis/Meiteis who may be considered as traitors for funding the very anti-Kangleipak groups, which have declared war on Kangleipak!”

“On the strength of the above facts, the Politburo Standing Committee of the Kangleipak Communist Party has unanimously decided to impose a permanent ban on the transport of betel leaves into the territory of Kangleipak and also on the same betel leaves syndicate with immediate effect. If anyone or the same syndicate is found violating the ban, the armed units of the Party will have the standing order to take serious action against the violator(s), including execution at the first possible opportunity” warned KCP.
