The vibrant beats of cultural performances, the thrill of competition, and the spirit of camaraderie marked the grand finale of the 38th Inter-University North East Zone Youth Festival, ‘TARANG UTSAV’, hosted by ICFAI University Tripura in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Held from 27th to 31st January 2025, the five-day festival celebrated the artistic and intellectual prowess of youth from 22 universities across Northeast India, culminating in a star-studded valedictory ceremony on Friday.
A Festival of Talent and Creativity
With 802 participants showcasing their skills across 28 events spanning music, dance, theatre, literature, fine arts, and more, the festival transformed ICFAI University Tripura into a hub of creativity. Campuses buzzed with activities ranging from One-Act Plays and Mimicry to Classical Vocal renditions, Folk Orchestra, and Quiz Competitions. The event highlighted the Northeast’s rich cultural diversity while fostering unity among students.
Valedictory Ceremony: Celebrating Excellence
The closing day witnessed dignitaries and participants gather for the valedictory program, graced by Dr. Bala Lakhendra, Observer-AIU, as Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Biplab Halder, Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University Tripura, set the tone with his welcome address:
“These five days have been a celebration of talent, creativity, and unity. The unforgettable experiences shared here remind us of the power of youth to inspire and innovate.”
Dr. Deepak Mishra (Technical Observer-AIU) and Dr. A. Ranganath (Registrar, ICFAI University Tripura) also attended, applauding the participants’ dedication. Dr. Lakhendra presented the official festival report, emphasizing its role in nurturing young talent.
Winners Crowned Amidst Thunderous Applause
After rigorous judging by 21 national jury members, the results were announced:
- Champion: Gauhati University
- 1st Runner-Up: Cotton University
- 2nd Runner-Up: Dibrugarh University
- 3rd Runner-Up: Manipur University
- 4th Runner-Up: Assam Royal Global University
Prizes were distributed to winning teams, with Gauhati University taking home the coveted championship trophy. The jury praised the high standards of performances, particularly in Group Dance, Western Vocal, and Literary Events.
A Legacy of Collaboration and Hope
In their closing remarks, organizers thanked students, faculty, and partners for the festival’s seamless execution. Prof. Halder reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering platforms that bridge cultural and academic excellence.
“TARANG UTSAV is not just a competition; it’s a movement to empower youth through art and collaboration,” said Dr. Ranganath. The event concluded with a resolve to expand such initiatives, ensuring brighter opportunities for Northeast India’s young talents.
