Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kakching District Council on Monday said that non-COVID patients, especially in villages, are facing hardships as they are unable to access treatment due to the prevailing situations induced by COVID-19 pandemic.

DESAM, Kakching District Council, in a release, said that the student body inspected the Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Community Health Centre (CHC) in the Kakching area. The PHC at Kakching Khunou Umathel was found to be functioning without an adequate number of doctors.

Out of the six doctors posted at the health centre, two were found to be on study and maternity leave. The two allopathic doctors who are on duty are facing problems due to the shortage. The health centre looks after the surrounding villages of Kakching Khunou.

The student body appealed to the concerned department and chief medical officer of the district to look into the matter so that the villagers can have full access to the PHC for non-COVID ailments.
