Drying rivers force government to stop supply of drinking water in Imphal areas

Sanjenthong Officer quarters, JNIMS hospital, New Checkon, Nongmeibung, Tribal Colony, Khamlabung Leirak, Soibam Leikai, Ayangpalli road, Kongpal, Khurai Sajor Leikai, Thangjam Leikai, Tinsid Road, Tellipati, Wangkhei Khunou, Hatta, Rahamania, Top Khongnangkhong, etc. will not be getting regular drinking water supply.

With the onset of winter in Manipur, major rivers passing through the State capital Imphal are drying up. The slow but definite onslaught has pushed the authorities to take measures and announce irregular water supply in major hubs of Imphal City.

Public Health Engineering Department, Manipur on December 5, 2022 has notified that there will be irregular water supply to general in areas under the Porompat Water Treatment Plant as the raw water in Iril river had gone down below the pumping level.

The areas covered under the plant include Sanjenthong Officer quarters, JNIMS hospital, New Checkon, Nongmeibung, Tribal Colony, Khamlabung Leirak, Soibam Leikai, Ayangpalli road, Kongpal, Khurai Sajor Leikai, Thangjam Leikai, Tinsid Road, Tellipati, Wangkhei Khunou, Hatta, Rahamania, Top Khongnangkhong, etc.

In the notification issued by the Executive Engineer of the Department, it further asserted that normal water supply for the mentioned areas will resume when raw water available in abundance at Iril river.
