Teachers’ associations of government colleges in Manipur on Saturday observed sit-in protests under the aegis of the Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations (FEGOCTA) as a part of democratic form of protests against the failure of the government to issue the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018.

On Saturday, sit-in protests were held at DM College of Science organised by DM College of Science Teachers’ Association and at the Manipur College organised by Manipur College Teachers’ Association. The decision to continue democratic agitations till the decision of Cabinet is implemented was taken at the Collective Sit in Protests cum Meeting held on January 28, 2021 at NG College, Imphal.

FEGOCTA, in a release, said that it is a serious issue that even after five months of Cabinet approval, no order has been issued till date. The further delay in implementation of National Policy of UGC will harm the students and higher education in Manipur, it warned.

“When 7th pay is already implemented for other employees of the Manipur government, why only the college teachers have been left out?”

FEGOCTA also appealed to the chief minister of Manipur for his immediate intervention to issue orders 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018.
