After two decades, the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state of Nagaland finally saw the dawn of new hope with the constitution of councillors with representation of majority women folks, including the post of deputy chair, Narola Stephanie Ezung.
Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president, Akashe Zhimomi, in a press note acknowledged the Nagaland government led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio for successfully implementing the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, ushering a ray of hope for development of the much-neglected cities and towns.
DCCI is also optimistic that Dimapur city will now witness rapid progress and development with the installation of the DMC chairperson and his team.
Dimapur, being the commercial hub of the state, deserves better infrastructure like good roads, uninterrupted power supply, streetlights, CCTV in important areas, timely disposal of garbage, good drainage systems etc.
The business community of Dimapur is also one of the highest tax payers to the Government of Nagaland. Besides the business community also employs hundreds of local boys and girls in shopping malls and showrooms in and around Dimapur, thereby solving, at least to some extent, the unemployment problem in the state.
However, the business community of Dimapur feels that it has been given a stepmotherly treatment as the government of the day has failed to provide basic infrastructure, amenities, security and enabling environment for trade and commerce to thrive in Dimapur.
Meanwhile, DCCI reminded the business community to strictly adhere to the notification dated Nov. 16, 2021 issued by the Municipal Affairs Department, wherein it mentioned that “collection of any kind of taxes/fees on items/goods that comes under the Goods & Services To (GST) regime shall be immediately stopped by all the Municipal and Town Councils across the State of Nagaland.”
