Dwelling House Gutted in Fire at Ukhrul’s Phungcham

At the time of the incident, the whole family members had gone to attend a housewarming programme of a relative at Phungcham

Fire gutted a dwelling house at Phungcham village, Ukhrul District, Manipur completely on Tuesday afternoon at around 1.40 pm.

The dwelling house belonging to Paoring Hongchui (59 years old) s/o Tuising Hongchui was razed to ashes by the fire destroying one kitchen and three bedrooms.

According to villagers, the fire first broke out at Taikong area, where a farm pond was constructed by the village. The raging fire then swept and burnt down the whole dwelling house of Paoring Hongchui. At the time of the incident, the whole family members had gone to attend a housewarming programme of a relative at Phungcham.

The fire was first noticed by Thannganem Horam, who was on his way home. He informed this correspondent that “I saw smoke and went to check the spot. I discovered the whole house burnt to the ground. So, I immediately informed the owners who had gone to attend the housewarming program of their relatives.”

Paoring Hongchui has 10 children — five sons and five daughters. The person responsible for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
