COVID-19: Manipur witnesses spike after downward trend for last couple of days

Out of the 8,744 active cases in the state, 2,940 are in home isolation at present.

Manipur reported a spike in fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday after the state witnessed a downward trend for the last couple of days. The number of tests conducted was also significantly higher on Tuesday at 8,074, out of which 785 new cases were reported. 

The daily positivity rate also slightly increased to 9.72 per cent from Monday’s 8.73 per cent. The positive persons were tested at RIMS (32), JNIMS (13), District Hospitals (500) and other testing centres (240), according to the Health Department. 

In the last 24 hours ending 5 pm Tuesday, the State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported eight COVID-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 998. Four individuals from Imphal West, and one each from Imphal East, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Chandel died at RIMS (2), JNIMS (3), Raj Medicity (1), DH Churachandpur (1), and PHC Kangpokpi (1). 

Out of the 8,744 active cases in the state, 2,940 are in home isolation at present. 

The positive cases from the general population are — 309 persons from Imphal West, 114 from Imphal East, 65 from Churachandpur, 62 each from Bishnupur and Thoubal, 52 from Kakching, 34 from Jiribam, 22 from Tamenglong, 20 from Ukhrul, 14 from Chandel, 11 from Senapati, four from Noney, two from Kangpokpi, and one Tengnoupal. 

On Tuesday, 476 persons were discharged — 309 are from home isolation, 30 from RIMS (20) and JNIMS (10) and the rest 137 from other COVID care facilities. The recovery rate now stands at 84.05 per cent. 

The total number of infections in the state stands at 61,096. 

Oxygen Status

As the Health Department, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1621 D-type Oxygen cylinders and 441 B-type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health facilities of Manipur. District hospitals and government institutions have 369 D and 76 B filled cylinders; out of these —
