COVID-19 claims five more lives in Manipur, 319 fresh infections reported

The number of active positive cases has now surged to 1,652. There are now 1,152 positive patients in home isolation.

Manipur on Saturday reported the highest single day spike of 319 fresh cases since the second wave hit the state. Five deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 410.

Imphal West (120) and Imphal East (91) continue to report a majority of the new cases. The other positive cases from general population are from Bishnupur (24), Kakching (23), Senapati (15), Thoubal (11), Churachandpur (9), Ukhrul (9), Kangpokpi (6), Chandel (2), Tamenglong (1), and Tengnoupal (1), according to the Health Department.

Five persons aged 71 yrs (female, Imphal West), 55 yrs (male, Imphal East), 50 yrs (female, Imphal East), 80 yrs (male, Kakching) and 26 yrs (male, Churachandpur) expired at Raj Medicity (2), RIMS (1) and JNIMS (2) Hospital respectively.

The number of active positive cases has now surged to 1,652 (General Population – 1536 and Central Security Personnel – 116). There are now 1,152 positive patients in home isolation.

The cumulative number of positive cases now stands at 31,905 (General Population 28,334 and Central Security Personnel 3,571).

Results of 2,222 tests were received on Saturday and 19 tests were conducted at the airport, as per the IDSP update.

Air passengers who travelled to the State on April 25 by Indigo Flight 6E-6181 in rows 16-21 and 6E-21 in rows 29-35 have been instructed to inform the Common Covid Control Room 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers ( DSO) immediately.

As per the latest information, 1,94,659 individuals have been vaccinated in the state, out of which 69,483 have received the second dose so far.

Meanwhile, the Health Department, in a release on Saturday, stated that the state government appreciates the increasing willingness of the general public to come forward for COVID vaccination.

Stating that in some locations, there are a requests to set up mobile vaccination centers, the release clarified that in any vaccination, it is important to have observation for Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) with arrangements for tackling any adverse events.

The Government of India had prescribed requirement for setting up COVID Vaccine Center at medical college, hospitals, district hospitals, Community Health Centers (CHCS), Primary Health Centers (PHCS) and other eligible private hospitals.

There are presently about 100 COVID vaccine center in Manipur, it said and requested all those desiring to undertake COVID vaccination to go to one of these COVID vaccine centers.

On the other hand, India reported 4,01,993 new COVID-19 cases, 3523 deaths on Saturday. The total number of active cases in the country now stands at 32,68,710.

As many as 1,91,64,969 cases have been reported since the beginning of pandemic in the country. And the death toll has now reached 2,11,853, according to the Union Health Ministry. 15,49,89,635 individuals have been vaccinated in the country so far.
