Consultative meet appeals all to work towards One Solution-One Agreement on Naga political issue

The consultative meet also decided that elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) should be conducted as per the 74th Amendment Act of the Constitution of India.

Nagaland Government on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with stakeholders including mass based civil societies, church organizations, tribal hohos, political parties and NGOs in the State Banquet Hall, Kohima, on the issues of Naga political talks and election of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

In the closed door meeting, a two-point resolution was unanimously adopted which was signed by UDA Chairman, TR Zeliang, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton.

The first resolution stated that Naga people were yearning for an early political solution and that the negotiating parties should earnestly heed to the call and arrive at а political solution that is honourable, inclusive, transparent and ассерtable to the реоple.

The House further appealed to all sections to make renewed efforts towards unity and understanding in order to work towards “One Solution and One Agreement”.

The second resolution said that elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) should be conducted as per the 74th Amendment Act of the Constitution of India.

After the consultative meeting, Advisor IT, Science and Technology, NRE Mmhonlumo Kikon said that Nagaland government believed in taking every section of the society in all decision that it takes and added that following the Supreme Court’s order, Nagaland government has already held several meetings on the ULB issue.

He said the consultative meeting held on Wednesday with the mass based civil societies was necessary on finding ways to comply with the Supreme Court’s order and also taking into account of not holding election in the past years due to the protests from the civil societies.

Mmhonlumo also added that the state government believed in taking every section of the society in all the decision that the government takes. He said the state government was trying to facilitate and meet with various stakeholders.

He further went on to add that the positive outcome of the consultative meet was that everybody present supported the 33 percent women’s reservation.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu also said that Nagaland government is a stakeholder to the ongoing Naga peace talk. The state government is serious about the peace process and everyone wants early solutions, he said.

Kronu added that the civil societies could organize any kind of meetings and invite the state government for discussion while adding that it is time for all to put efforts for early solution.

Kronu later informed that Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton and UDA Chairman, T R Zeliang, would head to Delhi on March 10 to meet Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, to discuss on the Naga peace talk.

Nagaland Legislative Assembly to hold election for Deputy Speaker on March 19

Meanwhile, Nagaland Legislative Assembly will hold election to the post of Deputy Speaker on March 19. This was informed in a press release issued by Commissioner and Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Dr. P J Antony. According to the release, filling of nomination papers would be open on March 14 and 15 while date of withdrawal is on March 16 and March 17 being set for scrutiny.
