Central assistance sought for upgradation of Takmu Water Sports complex

Works, Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) minister Govindas Konthoujam on Sunday sought central assistance for the upgradation of facilities at Takmu Water Sports complex and the same centre to be taken over by Sports Authority of India at the earliest.

The minister made the request during the visit of Nisith Pramanik, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and YAS to Loktak Lake.

The union minister was accompanied by Govindas Konthoujam; M Asnikumar Singh, Chairman, Loktak Development Authority (LDA); principal secretary YAS Manipur, and other central and state government officials.

As part of the same visit, he also visited INA H/Q & INA Memorial Hall Moirang, Water Sports Centre, Takmu, Chaoba Hill & Karang Island Loktak Lake, Sendra Tourist spot etc.

During the visit, the Union Minister also planted trees at the INA HQs. He also interacted with young water sports athletes at Takmu. At Karang Island, he interacted with some fishermen too.

The Union Minister personally assured of all possible assistance from his end in the efforts for the ecological restoration and conservation of the lake, improvement of livelihood of the communities dependent on the lake, upgrading water sports facilities etc.

In response to Govindas Konthoujam’s appeal, the Union Minister assured of all possible assistance from the YAS ministry and also requested for submission of a detailed report from the state YAS department at the earliest regarding the upgradation of Takmu Water Sports complex.
