In an apparently pre-poll related violence in Heirok assembly constituency, one person identified as Ningthoujam Rohit (20), resident of Heirok part-2 Mayai Leikai succumbed to bullet injuries. Rohit’s father was also injured in the incident and is currently being hospitalized.
He was rushed to Raj Medicity, Imphal but passed away on the way. Sources informed TFM that a shooting spree started at around 10 pm on Tuesday between political workers of rival parties.
Some persons reportedly sustained bullet injuries fired from shotguns and were brought for treatment to a hospital in Imphal. At around midnight, a group of masked men came to the residence of Ningthoujam Rohit and he was shot at point blank range, said the source.
He was injured with pellet wounds on his chest and died in transit to Raj Medicity. Further details are awaited.
