Bimol Akoijam’s wife files complaint against individuals spreading ‘slanderous’ information

Olivia Thounaojam, the wife of the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate for the forthcoming Manipur Lok Sabha Election (Inner Constituency) Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, has filed a complaint with the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Imphal West under the code of Criminal Procedure, invoking relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, against certain individuals for “spreading slanderous and wrongful information” regarding the marital status of her husband.

As per a source, the complaint filed by Olivia Thounaojam has prayed for taking cognizance of the offences committed by the persons/persons operating certain social media handles. It has pleaded the CJM to direct the Cyber Crime Police to initiate a probe and also for awarding appropriate punishments against the accused persons for criminal acts committed against the complainant. It further said that these deplorable acts have affected the integrity, reputation, status and prestige of the complainant, her family members and relatives.

Furthermore, a complaint has been filed with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The same has been accepted as registered, against the individual(s) using certain social media accounts. The source stated that the complaint is pinning hope that the national cyber crime authorities will be able to “undertake an impartial and judicious investigation of the defamatory and wrongful aspersions regarding the marital status of Angomcha Bimol Akoijam”.

It may be mentioned that the INC candidate has even gone on record in his public speech about the “slanderous” information about his marriage to a woman from a community currently embroiled in ethnic conflict.
