2-day Workshop for identification of waterbirds from January 28

A two-day  workshop for identification of waterbirds and counting technique will be held at Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong from January 28 to January 29, 2023. Bird census will also be conducted on February 5 at 50 different counting sites in and around Loktak Lake.

The workshop is supported by Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Forest Department, Loktak Development Authority (LDA) and Geo-Environmental and Technical Services(GETS).

Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN), Manipur has been officially coordinating the Loktak Waterbird Census activities since the last 15 years as a part of the Asian Waterbird Count (AWC) under the directive of BNHS, Mumbai, Birdlife International and Wetland International. The Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) is part of the global International Waterbird Census (IWC). This Citizen Science programme is supporting conservation and management of wetlands and waterbirds worldwide, said a press note issued by IBCN.

Several higher educational institutions and NGOs are joining in this unique event supported by Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Dept. of Forest, and Loktak Development Authority (LDA), Government of Manipur.
