Irked by the extension of the indefinite bandh called by the Southern Angami People’s Organization (SAPO) since March 23 midnight against Manipur government for showing “lackadaisical attitude” towards its demands on the issue of withdrawing its armed personnel and removing structures from the alleged “disputed area” of Kezoltsa entering day 7, it was known that the same was yet to be brought to terms honuorably between the two governments.

In a telephonic conversation with this correspondent, All Assam Manipuri Youths’ Association (AAMYA) Central Committee chief advisor, Kshetrimayum Kundal, said that keeping in mind the nature in which the two parties are handling the situation, AAMYA has proposed for an indefinite “counter bandh” starting Sunday midnight along the Assam part of Assam-Nagaland Highway No. 39 to voice its resentment against the extension of the bandh along the Nagaland part of the same NH-39 called by SAPO that has stranded people, trucks and other vehicles bound for Imphal, resulting in “unbearable physical and mental tortures and socio-economic crisis.”

Stating that this “undesirable decision” has been taken after SAPO failed to respond to the “humble appeal” from the association to end the ongoing indefinite bandh imposed by them on the innocent people, Kshetrimayum Kundal said AAMYA was also deeply annoyed with the indifference of the Nagaland government which is supposed to have solved the crisis at the earliest.

“AAMYA cannot remain a mute spectator when people are harassed for no good reasons,” said Kshetrimayum Kundal.

He further went on to add that blocking the highway is a serious insult to humanity and though the association has no intention to counter the same, but out of compulsion to “remove” the SAPO bandh that has harassed the people beyond “unbearable limits” and as a “distress call” to the Nagaland government who is still remaining silent, AAMYA has taken this extreme step.

However, Kshetrimayum Kundal informed that during the indefinite bandh, students appearing exams, ambulance with patients, police and para-military forces on duty, press/media, religious and marriage ceremonial gatherings are exempted from purview of the bandh.

The AAMYA chief advisor further said that bandh would continue unless and until SAPO withdraws the indefinite bandh in Nagaland’s part of the NH-39 while also requesting trucks and transport associations to cooperate.
