As part of observing the 27th death anniversary of former chief minister of Manipur late RK Jaichandra Singh, Cycling for Humanity Team, on behalf of Jaichandra’s wife RK Sorojini Devi, his son MLA RK Imo Singh and family members, distributed food items for dinner on Sunday at different COVID care centres and children homes.
Food Items were distributed for dinner to around 900 inmates and staff at CCC of Lamboi Khongnangkhong, RD Wing and Bal Bhavan. Edible Items were also distributed to the children and staff at Children’s Home Tera, Porei Nawakon, Koirengei and Punya Nawa Yaiphakol, Thangmeiband, according to a release.
As people are reeling under the raging COVID-19 pandemic in the state, yearly customary rites of the late leader were not performed. The family of Late RK Jaichandra Singh, led by his wife RK Sorojini Devi and son RK Imo Singh who is the MLA of Sagolband AC, along with other family members decided to distribute these food items to the CCCs and children’s home as a mark of remembrance on his death anniversary. This is the best way one could serve the people during these trying circumstances, the release added.
RK Imo Singh also thanked the Cycling For Humanity Team for all the support given to make it a success. He also wished everyone at the CCCs to get well soon and stay safe.
At the young age of 43, RK Jaichandra Singh became the first union minister from Manipur between 1985 and 1988 in the then government of Rajiv Gandhi. He was the Sports and Youth Affairs minister and later took charge as minister for Chemicals and Petrochemicals. He later became the chief minister of Manipur between 1988 and 1990. He was instrumental in bringing the Sports Authority of India to Manipur which has led to the production of great sportspersons in Manipur and initiated the amendment of MLR LR Act in the Assembly as chief minister. RK Jaichandra Singh died at the young age of 53 years at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, it added.
