Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong supports 24-hour total-shutdown called by ATSUM

Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has extended support to the 24-hour total shut down with effect from 6pm of August 3 to 6 pm of August 4 in the entire hill districts of Manipur valled by All-Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM). The TKS stated that it endorsed the stand of ATSUM.

A press release issued by TKS general secretary Yuimi Vashum stated that as per the directive from the ATSUM, TKS will also continue with an “intense form of agitations” from August 5 as a strong resentment against the state government’s “lackadaisical attitude towards the wish and desire of the tribal people for tabling of the Hill Area Committee (HAC) recommended “The Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill 2021” during the ongoing 2nd Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

It may be mentioned that ATSUM had announced a 24-hour shutdown in the hill districts of Manipur with effect from 6 pm on August 3 till 6 pm on August 4.

Meanwhile, there are reports that ATSUM leaders were arrested by the Manipur Police on Tuesday from Imphal West. According to sources, police picked up the student leaders, including ATSUM president Paotinthang Lupheng, general secretary SR Andrea and two other executive members from the office of ATSUM located at Adimjati Shiksha Ashram, Chingmeirong.
