According to the 2011 census, the total population of Ukhrul district is 1,83,998. An Increase of 28.83 per cent was recorded from 1991-2001 and 30.70 per cent from 2001-2011 was witnessed in the census exercise.
As per a report made available to this correspondent, a total of 7,555 doses of Covishield (COVID vaccine) have been administered at Ukhrul district beginning from January 16, 2021 to April 30, 2021. The cumulative numbers of COVID-19 vaccination for Ukhrul district stands at 5,247 (first dose) and 2,308 (second dose). Imphal West recorded the highest with 48,091 (first dose) and 20,619 (second dose) followed by Imphal East with 41,842 (first dose) and 11,988 (second dose).
As per record, from Ukhrul District, 1,106 (first dose) and 740 (second dose) were vaccinated to health care workers. Front Line Workers 2,893 (first dose) and 1,519 (second dose). The achievements of 45 to 60 years beneficiaries stands at 630 (first dose) and 18 (second dose). Achievement of 60+ years stands at 618 (first dose) and 31(second dose).
Kamjong District recorded the lowest with 2,061 (first dose) and 904 (second dose) a total of 2,965 vaccinated beginning from January 16, 2021 to April 30, 2021. Out of which, 542 (first dose) and 263 (second dose) were vaccinated to health care workers. 937 (first dose) and 626 (second dose) to front line workers. Achievement of 45 to 60 years beneficiaries stands at 334 (first dose) and 0 (second dose). Achievement of 60+ years stands at 248 (first dose) and 15 (second dose).
As informed by the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of Ukhrul and Kamjong, at present, there are 4000 doses available in Ukhrul district Hospital and only 240 doses of Covishield is currently available for Kamjong district. Since there is storage for COVID-19 vaccine at Kamjong, they are procuring the vaccine from either Ukhrul or Imphal on a daily basis.
The low response to COVID-19 vaccination at Ukhrul and Kamjong is a worrisome situation. On the other hand, if the populace came out in large numbers for vaccination, the available dose is far from the required numbers from Ukhrul and Kamjong.
