CM office issues advisory as COVID-19 active cases cross 250 in Manipur

All Cabinet Ministers, legislators and government functionaries were advised to refrain from organizing or participating in any event, which can attract crowd. Meanwhile, India reported 2,61,500 new COVID-19 cases and 1,501 deaths in the last 24 hours.

As the active cases of COVID-19 surged to 255 in Manipur, with 72 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours on Sunday, chief minister N Biren Singh chaired a meeting of the state consultative committee and discussed various issues on the Covid-19 second wave in the State.

After the meeting, the office of the chief minister issued an advisory for all Cabinet Ministers, legislators and government functionaries to refrain from organising, participating in or promoting, in any manner whatsoever, events or functions by whatever name called, which will create or attract, or are likely to create or attract public gathering of any size.

Advisory was issued as the present situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic has been a cause for alarm in recent days and gatherings for various reasons are potential sources for spreading the virus, said Secretary to Chief Minister Ningthoujam Geoffrey.

Meanwhile, the chief minister tweeted, “Chaired a meeting of State Consultative Committee for #COVID19 today. Discussed on many issues on the Covid-19 second wave in the State. Took decisions on social gathering, partial lockdowns, markets opening timing, official programmes, re-engagement of nurses & MTS etc.”

Out of the 72 fresh cases, 21 were from Imphal West, 16 from Imphal East, 12 from Churachandpur, seven from Bishnupur, six from Chandel, five from Kakching, three from Thoubal and one each from Noney and Kangpokpi. However, no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative number of positive cases stands at 29,721, according to COVID-19 Common Control Room, Government of Manipur.

As per latest information, 1,06,284 individuals have been vaccinated in the state. Individuals above the age of 45 have been advised to get vaccinated at RIMS, JNIMS, district hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, and select private hospitals.

Meanwhile, Manipur police is strictly enforcing the night curfew. There have been reports of people being fined during the curfew.

The Manipur Government had issued an order to impose the daily night curfew from 8 pm to 4 am in view of the alarming new cases in the country.

Starting Sunday, entry to the state has also been banned without a negative COVID-19 tests report in the last 72 hours.

Meanwhile, India reported 2,61,500 new COVID-19 cases and 1,501 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The total cases in the country now stand at 1,47,88,109.

There are now 18,01,316 active cases in the country. The overall death toll has reached 1,77,150. As many as 12,26,22,590 people have been vaccinated so far.

The Union Health Ministry on Sunday said that the daily positivity rate of COVID-19 in India has doubled from 8 per cent to 16.69 per cent in the last 12 days.
