Sekmai Assembly Constituency MLA Heikham Dingo on Monday said that an inquiry was underway into the incident where wall of the under-construction school building fell off on slight push. The contractor will be dealt with according to the outcome of the inquiry and the school building will be constructed by a new contractor at the earliest, he added.

A team of Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) had recently inspected the Nilapadma Higher Secondary School under the Sekmai Assembly Constituency. The wall of the under-construction building was found to wobble when some members pushed against it. When more force was exerted the bricks fell off easily, as though there were no adhesive materials between them.

MSF has demanded stringent action against the contractor under whom the building was constructed.

MLA Dingo was speaking at the inauguration of the school gate and cycle shed of Sardar Patel High School, Khurkhul. It was constructed by the headmaster of the school, H Priyobatra with his own money.

Applauding Priyobatra for his efforts, the MLA maintained that schools are temples for the future generation. All of us need to make efforts to improve it, he added.

Dingo also warned of stern action against those contractors responsible for building school structures without maintaining quality. Ever since the BJP led state government came to power, efforts have been made to improve impoverished schools, he maintained.

Headmaster Priyobatra said that the school was established more than 80 years ago but was found to be without any fencing, gate or cycle shed. So he constructed the gate and the cycle shed with his own money. MLA Dingo took up the fencing work and constructed the canal. He also urged the students and parents of the school to work together to improve the school.
