Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) secretary organisation Mayengbam Budhi on Wednesday asserted that the government’s “War on Drugs” has become a joke.

Budhi made the remark at a sit-in held at Kyamgei, Imphal East District. It was jointly organised by Kyamgei Sega Lambi Kha-Wang Meira Paibi lup and CADA, a release said.

He further said that the acquittal of Lhukhosei Zou and discharging of the accused, including a Myanmar citizen, by a court recently in relation to a drug seizure worth Rs 400 crore by Thoubal police in 2019, have made the public confused.

An ulterior motive to drown the people in the sea of illicit substances cannot be ruled out, as the government’s move to legalise alcohol in the ensuing Budget session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, amidst the outcry from the public to punish the drug smugglers, he added.

The release also said that several slogans were also shouted against the acquittal of Lhukhosei Zou from whose official quarter a huge amount of drugs were seized in 2018.
