Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) member, Yitachu, representing the 20 Meluri Assembly Constituency has stated that the people of the Meluri want the sub-division to be upgraded to a separate district.
In a letter addressed to the Pochury Hoho, the MLA said since Meluri sub-division deserves to be a full-fledged district in all respects, it was also an appropriate time to pursue the matter with the Government of Nagaland with all seriousness.
In this regard, the MLA has convened a consultative meeting on January 20, 1 PM, at his official residence, located at Billy Graham Road, Kohima, with seven apex Pochury bodies.
The apex bodies included Pochury Hoho, Pochury Gazetted Officers’ Forum, Pochury Kajipa Union, Pochury Mothers’ Association, Pochury GB Union, Pochury Students’ Union, and the Pochury Youth Organization.
It was also informed that the purpose of the meet is to chalk out “detailed plan” of action to pursue the matter in a “democratic manner” for declaration of Meluri sub-division to a full-fledged district. The sitting MLA representing the Meluri 20 Assembly Constituency further requested the apex bodies to attend the meeting with views and suggestions.
